The Hub

Williamsburg, Brooklyn
New York City
The Hub is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at establishing a worker-led collective haven for NYC's immigrant gig worker community. It arises amidst a glaring deficiency in supportive spaces for these workers, envisioning a vibrant hub where essential amenities like shelter, restrooms, and e-bike charging infrastructure are readily available in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Beyond mere functionality, the Hub’s true ambition lies in cultivating an environment of care and empowerment conducive to leadership development and grassroots organizing among workers. Planned and designed with workers, the Hub embodies values of liberation and emancipation with a sense of hope, offering the potential to redefine the landscape for a workforce often invisibilized, marginalized and exploited.

This project is in partnership with the nonprofit Worker’s Justice Project, and their workers divisions Los Deliveristas Unidos, Construction Workers United, and Liberty Cleaners.

Phase 1 (Research and Concept) was made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
